Vecino closes on £21m Inter move, another 'Tottenham target' crossed off

Just over a month ago Tottenham Hotspur were reported to be weighing up a move for Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino.
The Sun reported Spurs had made contact with the Italian side as they considered their options in case Eric Dier ended up leaving, amid interest from Manchester United.
United clinched a deal for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic yesterday, with Spurs holding firm over Dier.
Vecino is then moving on elsewhere himself, unchallenged by Tottenham.

The Argentine is signing for Inter Milan, with Goal reporting he is undergoing a medical ahead of his £21 million move.
Vecino would have been a replacement for Eric Dier at around a third of the price and could have represented smart value for Spurs, but ultimately it is better to have a player they know and trust.

Dier holds a strong rapport with his Tottenham teammates, particularly Dele Alli, and selling him in the same summer as Kyle Walker would have sent a terrible message out about the club's ambitions.
Holding onto Dier is a big statement from Spurs, although where they will spend their money this summer remains in question, with the North London side the only team in the Premier League who have not bought a single player.
